Hi Di,
You will/may find that even after hot flashes due to menopause are gone, you will most likely still have hot flashes. Actually, you can have hot flashes due to menopause for many years. The ones that are due to our CMT bodies not being able to regulate temperature are different. So you may be stuck with this for a long long time. However, the ones due to CMT, I am finding are more so in the night. I'm sick of them but nothing much to do for those kind. Mine come when I turn over.
As far as muscle relaxers, I know that they can about knock you out and all you can do is lay around. When I had severe muscle cramps that did not leave in my back - horrible, I went to my chiropractor. At the time, he was a very gentle good doctor. He made certain that my back was fine and I then wore a back belt for six weeks. I also took 2 Advil four times a day. (Had never done that before). It is an easier, shall we say, muscle relaxer. It worked for me as I definitely knew that I did not want any other type of muscle relaxer. I also got rid of the back belt as I knew that that can weaken your muscles. I am very careful with my back now let me tell you. I twisted wrong when that happened to me.
I had symptoms of CMT then but not as bad as now. I'm not sure that menopause makes CMT worse either. It may seem like it but I don't think so. Menopause is just a natural thing that we all go thru.
Where are your muscle cramps? Perhaps you are missing something in your body that would make this happen. Also, walking a lot can cause your feet/legs to cramp with CMT. But, I'm just guessing.
I do not take any medications for either and I do not plan to. I do take a very "simple" multivitamin - no Iron added as menopausal women do not need Iron and neither do men. An expert neurologist who knows CMT told us that. And for that matter my doctor did too. Just a very "simple" multivitamin. Unless of course you would be low in Iron, then that's a different story. I am healthy except for CMT.
I hope you find the answer. Take care.
