the drugs were offered in the 1960's. i don't know for sure (i was about 9 yrs old) but i think the hypnotist was licenced.

the demo - this was 1974. our dorm had various visiting professors and they each gave interesting talks. we had a famous physicist too. in the psychologist's obituary on the internet i read some interesting things. let's just say her methods were revolutionary and probably controversial too, since she more or less pioneered some of this stuff. every science in it's infancy has mistakes, so i am not blaming her.
