maybe call Verizon and ask how to take it off - don't say anything about the phone problem - if they ask why just say you are moving it to another wall jack or something... remodeling/ rearranging furniture ...something like that.

I think if you mention any phone problem they will want to send a technician out

I would not pay the 91 bucks if I could help it either.
