Call the company that produced the computer or the retailer. You should have a warranty, at least a year? Is it a limited version of Office 2007? Did they give you a product key to activate it?

If you can't get it working then I agree in regard to Open Office. My son has used it for years. It's like a no frills copy of Office but is compatible for basic functions.
