You can try putting a cold pack on the wrist.

I had terrible problems when I had IV's when I had my C-Section.
One of them was Aldomet and it caused phlebitis in my hand veins.
My hands hurt more than my incision! I found putting a cold pack on the wrist, contracted the ligament enough so that the circulation to hands improved.

It is free and non toxic and may help.
