Spinal lesion from sports injury?
Hi everyone,
I posted here yesterday with with a question about translating my MRI results into everyday English. I've researched it further. I wasn't surprised to find I have several herniated disks.
I'll quote the part of my diagnosis that is making me very nervous:
"There is a 1 cm high signal lesion on T2 involving the right pedicle of L5. Corresponding low signal is present T1."
In the conclusion they state: "Indeterminate marrow lesion involving the right pedicle of L5. Consider SPECT evaluation as neoplasm is not excluded."
I now know that they found a 1 cm mass on or in my L5 vertebrae. They want to do further tests to check if it is cancerous or something.
My question is if it's possible to develop a lesion like this from multiple blows to the lower back. I've led a very active life and have had numerous sports injuries and at-home accidents: Three years ago I fell off a ladder while painting near the roof and landed in a sitting position. Thankfully I landed on dirt. I severely bruised my tailbone while skiing by flipping up in the air and landing in a sitting position on ice. I was unable squat or move around normally for over a month after the tailbone injury even though X-rays showed no bone breakage. I've been hit from behind while skiing very very hard several times. I've also been hit by a fixed-grip chairlift right in the lower back. That one ended my ski season. I've had to jump off spooking horses, etc...
Over a decade ago I was skiing and landed on my ski pole when I fell. The hard plastic grip hit me in the inner thigh very hard. This created a bruise the size of a grapefruit. The bruise lasted months. Now I have a permanent lump where the bruise was that a doctor said could be suspected as cancer (if he didn't know how I got the lump.)
So I'm suspecting that a spinal lesion can be caused by blows to the back.
Anyone want to comment on this?
