Hi Cathie,
I've also had several fine needle aspiration biopsies. The reason they kept doing them on me was because they said my thyroid was very "vascular" (meaning veins, etc, therefore bloody) and they couldn't get good tissue. I have an enlarged thyroid (from a multi-nodular goiter).
I agree with everyone else. I did have a local, but no anesthesia, and I was fine. It's a little uncomfortable I'd call it.....not really painful.
However, and I don't know all your health issues, if you have other stuff going on you probably should use the anesthesia. This is just to avoid "stress" on your "system". I'm no doctor, but just from exerience with all my stuff, I'd say it's easier on you.
So, don't worry!
