sometimes when I click icons my hand is moving and slides the icon off the quick launch area.
i don't know if you use the quick launch - it's the little icons in the bar at the bottom next to the start button.

also from the start button/program list / go to Firefox and right click it
then you can find the -- send to - Desktop - create shortcut
that will make a new icon on the desktop for you
