So according to this blog post, unless there's a financial incentive to look into a disease cause, then a company or university won't bother. If this is the case then some company or university could easily get more money to research the common cold or influenza then something more substantial such as MS, Alzeimers, or PD.


What ever happened to old-fashioned government sponsored disease research?
