You know James....

You could take a chelate, and use something else for the laxative.
Prune juice, dates, figs, are quite effective.

There is Miralax OTC, but the FDA has some problems with PEG laxatives, so I hesitate to recommend them for daily use at this time.

Or just use the mag oxide for laxative.
There are foods very high in magnesium. 3oz of unsalted almonds have 270mg. You could use this for your supplement and only use the Mag oxide for laxative.

Unfortunately, I have looked for some food charts for mag...they all differ.
One easy source is Edamame beans 99mg...these are really good and easy to eat (frozen in the stores). per serving

If you like beans, black beans are a good source too. 120mg
Yogurt will give you 10% of your needs a day too.
