You are blessed to have a little relative who is a reader. If you’d like to encourage this wonderful habit, some books popular for her age group that you may not know include:

Dear Mrs. Larue: Letters From Obedience School by Mark Teague (this is howlingly funny and wonderfully illustrated)

Princess Poppy by Janey Louise Jones (a series of books suitable for the emerging reader)

The thing about bookworms, is that they are thrilled to get ANY book. Think back to the classics of your childhood and you can’t go wrong.

If money is tight, don’t hestitate to buy a used book or to give one you had as a youngster. Write your name and the year inside and it becomes a keepsake she can one day pass along to her children.

Alternatively, give her a certificate inviting her to an afternoon with you, either at the library or reading together at home. She’ll be thrilled. I saw a child’s shirt once that said: IF YOU LOVE ME, READ ME A BOOK.” How true!

Cheers
