I had the rib resection and scalenectomy four years after my diagnosis of TOS, neuro.
I got it from over use on the computer.
I went to Dr. Annest in Denver, Presbyterian Hospital, even though I live in CA, because of the huge volume and success they have there.
I was very scared.
The surgery itself was a breeze.
But, after the Fentanyl wore off, I had fibromyalgia (total body pain) very bad, and ended up being in the hospital nine days. This is not usual.
The key is not to move around and cause scar tissue. you want to heal with the least amount of scar tissue forming. Don't text or use your hands, fingers, etc., for as long as you can, and be protective. Don't waste the surgery by going right back to repetitive movements which can cause scar tissue.
You are welcome to PM me and give me your phone number and I (I am female) will call you from CA, or, I will PM you my phone number so we can talk. I don't mind talking to your parents also. You do need someone there with you to fight for pain medication and get things for you and keep you drinking fluids. I was alone and it was harder because of that.
God bless you and keep you safe through this surgery. I have known many people now, in person, who have had the surgery, and more than one, and they are better now than before. They are not cured, though. That is just a fact. But you are very, very young, and your TOS may be curable because removable of the extra ribs may take care of the problem!!!
Be hopeful!!!
