I do like--
--the cinnamon suggestion. Not harmful, and tasty.
Is it possible you can get more weight bearing exercise? That, more than aerobic exercise, seems to help insulin get into cells and "normalize" blood sugar levels.
There is always the possibility of using alpha-lipoic or R-lipoic acid, but then we're starting to talk about things with more systemic effects that may impinge on other systems.
