Longer periods are sometimes occur with PCOS...polycystic ovary syndrome (and may be lighter in flow)

Shorter periods usually come from estrogen dominance (and are heavier)

You would need some blood tests to see where the problem is.
Some is ovarian and some may be pituitary.
