Thumbs up I really enjoy the Dog Whisperer shows...

Thanks for posting this, jcc.

Especially the ones where an apparently incurable nasty snarling dog is
redirected into a new unaggressive way of life. Also giving the dog something to "do" , a job, seems to work for the large breeds like Rotties and shepards.

When I read about people using service dogs and epilepsy dogs, and even
the dogs that are trained to sniff out melanomas...I have to wonder about
the bonds that we form with pets, esp dogs. It seems almost psychic to me
at times! In Cesear's shows, it is always the owner who ends up being retrained! That the dog is picking up feelings from the owner, and acting out always amazes me. It only goes to show how subtle and how sensitive
animals really are. We need to respect them more, and his show demonstrates this aspect.

Another good show is Dogs with a Job. I think it is on Nat Geo too, or maybe it is Animal Planet. (or maybe BOTH!-- I switch back and forth between them frequently). There was a touching story about a woman with severe epilepsy who became a recluse, until her service dog enabled her to change her life and get out into the world again. It was a beautiful show.

I am really leaning now to getting a dog more and more. We have had cats for 40 years! It will have to be after Sheba passes however. She would never tolerate a dog, it would stress her out too much in her old age. But the other two kitties I think would deal with it, perhaps. (esp if it were a puppy and a small breed).
