A few other things.

More and more states are requiring SDs in the public eye of any kind be registered with the state. The is usually done at the county level. In Calif or example each county has to accept your application and issue some sort of ID. Where I live it's a cheap brass tag with a number on it. Another county issues a very nice tag and id card with photos. NEITHER is required by federal law. The state law also says the dog has to wear some sort of identifier like a tag or vest.

DO NOT give your money to any organisation that wants to charge you for registering or certifying your dog. While not illegal to register them in a private database these registries have no legal standing. Only one registry has that I know of is recogognized by the DoJ, DoT and the Airlines. The cost for registration is nothing. Private registries may charge up to $300 or more and all you 've done is line their pockets. Additionaly impersonating an SD is illegal federally and in many states with fines starting at $1000.
