Twink, I'm so glad it's nothing serious. I'd have done the same thing. Better safe than sorry.
If Sugar goes outside a lot his fur underneath his tummy gets damp and then picks up dirt and dust. It'll continue to mat up if you don't brush him regularly. Cats love to be brushed (gently) and it'll prevent him from getting furballs, too. .
