Well, that is totally great... that is a touching description of their needs too.

You can probably buy the seeds and reuse the medium. Some inexpensive fertilizer will help the later batches along, since whatever comes with the set, will be consumed after a time.

The grass does not last long, so real soil is not needed. I wouldn't let them get that vermiculite in them tho. You might have to snip it and offer in a little glass if they start pulling it up.
Some cats (like my son's) rip the whole grass out of the growing container!
