Did you check an online chart for your weight and height and activity level to come up with the 1200 calories?
It's not really supposed to be a race.
Be patient with yourself.
Maybe plan for the beer three times a week on days when you exercise -- something like that.
You might check out Weight Watchers online. You can go to the message boards for free. If you pay to join you get the online journal and the rest of the plan. Or you might like to go to the weekly meetings. Their plan works for some people. If you have been successful in other group work, you might do well with this as well.
