Oh and Rose and Bernard were living along together on the
island the last we saw them on the season 5 finale.

Sayid said more or less, "Desmond's in a well on the main island. Locke wanted him dead so he must be important. It's going to be you, Jack."
So my theory is still that Desmond will be important for the end of the show.
