Default Proctor Black Woods Blizzard tour underway

Proctor Black Woods Blizzard tour underway
Twins’ Manager Gardenhire joins snowmobile ride

Proctor Journal

The largest field ever—125 snowmobilers—were scheduled to leave Proctor this morning to hit the trail for the 8th Annual Black Woods Blizzard Tour, a ride to fight ALS—Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

A kick-off reception was held last night. Riders were to depart Proctor’s Black Woods and head for Fortune Bay Lodge and Casino.

Fri., Feb. 2, participants will ride from Fortune Bay to Two Harbors.

The following day, Saturday, riders head back to Proctor for a wrap-up banquet.

Among those taking part again this year is former Minnesota Twins’ Catcher Terry Steinbach. Steinbach lost his father to ALS and is hosting this event for the eighth consecutive year.

Also riding is current Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire. He’s joining the tour for the fourth straight year. He brings along Twins’ Pitching Coach Rick Anderson and Twins’ Hitting Coach Joe Vavra.

The Black Woods Blizzard Tour is the largest single fundraiser for the Northland Chapter of the Minnesota ALS Association. Last year alone, the Tour raised more than $268,000. This year’s Tour will put the event over the $1,250,000 mark in money raised since its inception.
