Sheila,
I haven't had a fusion yet but was advised to have a cervical fusion. I've heard that the levels above and below tend to go bad because they're taking up the slack for the fused joints. The surgeon specifically mentioned this as a possiblity after having the fusion. In your case, it sounds like this is what happened to C7-T1.
