Hi My son has been told that he wont be getting a diploma. But I've decided that I need to tell him that he is getting a diploma. Because when I think of all the things he has accomplished with his time in school he is graduating with a diploma from high school. He may not be going to college to study art. As he would like too. Because so far I haven't found a school that will allow him too. But don't get me wrong I haven't given up yet. He will be working at the same job he is now. He will be getting paid to work at the Oxford Animal Clinic. And he does a fantastic job, and is appreciated by the staff. I have to say, I don't know any one that is more loved in their job than him.
He has taken all the art classes that Benton Central offers. And he loves strength training. He is learning about adult life with the rest of the seniors. And who says all the high school kids have to know Calculus and those top science classes. He loves school and will always remember the years he has spent in school.
He will also always remember the friends he has made. The one's that have stood up for him when others made fun of him. The one's that helped him when he had seizures at school. Its a hard life to lead having seizures at sports games, field trips and during the day at school. But it sure helps when your classmates show you they respect you for the way you handle yourself. Derrick has had a wonderful experience with his senior friends. He has been one of the lucky differentabled kids. I can only hope that all differentabled kids have the same experiences he does,.
