I tried one after my DD was born because I was unable to tolerate oral contraception, but I couldn't stand the side effects.

I didn't have a history of anything listed by Jo*Mar above, but I did end up having mine removed after about 6 months because of increased bleeding and nasty dysmenorrhoea.

I was among the small percent that don't tolerate them but it's good to get both sides when making a decision. In the end, I guess you just have to listen to what your doctor tells you, read what you can about them and then weigh up the pros and cons.
