I have a cousin who is bi-polar, and he grew up in a time and place where such things were all lumped together as just being "different". For a long time during his childhood he was either left to suffer through his condition alone, or given strong medications that simply masked his problems by making him nearly a vegetable. I was a kid then myself, and had no idea what was happening or why. Now I feel terrible guilt that the rest of us kids tended to ostrasize my cousin because of his "strangeness". Anyway, I'm not sure what prompted me to suddenly write all that, but I am very happy to see that your daughter has a mom who cares so much, and is obviously not going to go through the hell that my cousin did.
