If you don't eat any foods with magnesium in them, then more supplements are needed.

Typical SlowMag was designed for one tablet twice a day use.

You are already using 4? Why not space them differently?

Magnesium is not like a drug. It slowly inserts into enzyme systems and works that way. An hour or two here and there you should not be feeling mag withdrawal. If you are, something is not right. Perhaps you need B6 too? It works with the magnesium.

I wouldn't take more than 4 SlowMag a day, without doctor supervision.

There is another long acting type called Magnesium Lactate.
You could try that instead as an alternative.
Hi MrsD

My bottle of slowmag says take 1 or 2 tablets once or twice a day. I take one with breakfast, lunch, dinner and another at bedtime. Some days I don't take my morning or lunch time dose. But I do feel more anxious when not taking it. What would the B6 do for me?

My 17 year old son has been taking Kirkman labs Buffered Magnesium glycinate for 9 or 10 years now. He started with kirkman labs Nuthera vitamins for his aspergers but needed to take the magnesium because the bs could make him hyper because of his ADHD. He now takes an over the counter vitamin but still takes 400 mg of magnesium in the morning before school. If he has friends over after school he often takes a few more. It helps keep him from getting overly excited.

When I first found out about magnesium there wasn't much information and there certainly have not been any Drs, that we've dealt with, that have been able to help us with this. I was so grateful when I found this site and heard reference to an ADHD magnesium thread.

I guess my question is what is the best type of magnesium for ADHD. How many milligrams per body weight should be taken. And should the doses be broken up through out the day to keep my son calm and able to communicate with his peers without getting overly excited.

Thank you for all of your help and this wonderful site.
