Debbie,
Thyroid dysfunction is very common in PWMS. I have a multinodular Thyroid. I have hypo-low function.
The last Ultrasound just showed a few new ones, and two very large dominant ones that have grown larger. (sigh) I am to have my third biopsy next week. The nodule is as large as 1/2 of my thyroid gland, not good and they big one has calcification in it. My ENT wanted to remove 1/2 the gland last year. My Endo doc said no. Now I have new growth and enlarged ones that are older.
I am on Synthroid because my Thyroid is not making enough of the hormone. My Mom had it too, but hers was really low, and they say it is genetic.
MS has Grave's and Hashimoto's thyroid, both autoimmune they say. Very common in MS. Others can have it too, but we are the lucky ones sometimes, NOT!
An interesting note. CCSVI has been linked to Thyroid questions/problems now. Dr Zamboni mentioned it in a paper that the brain may try to drain to the Thyroid veins and cause collateral veins around it.
Also the Thyroid normally drains to the jugulars veins. Having blocked jugulars does it cause Thyroid problems?..or Thyroid problems help block the jugulars? I have lots of swelling in my neck. It chokes me now and very painful.
I will wait to see the results of the biopsy and pray for clean results. An FB Interventional Radiologist doctor will be doing my biopsy so I will ask him about this and CCSVI too. Maybe they go hand in hand.
I'll let you know. Always something.
