I actually had no injury of any kind that started RSD in me. It started on the bottoms of my feet. I had numb spots.......felt like i walked on rocks but without any kind of pain at first. That went on from appoximately April 03 until Nov 03. My sensory perception on the bottoms of my feet was totally wonky. Then woke up on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in 03, sat up on the side of the bed, went to stand & the burning pain hit & has never gone away since. They think, but are not sure, that it probably started with previous & then on going injury to my lumbar spine. Now i have had 2 major back surgeries but neither one put my RSD into remission or alleviated it one bit. The thing the surgeries alleviated was, first surgery in 11/05 extensive back pain (altho it still hurts when I am up too long or over due it), the probability that I was going to become paralyzed from the waste down & some leg pain. Second surgery 6/09 alleviated extensive right leg sciatic pain. Did nothing for RSD pain at all. But they still think my horribly bad spine might have caused the RSD to start in my feet. Now we believe it to be CNS pain also.
Anesthesiologist are who at first diagnosed me.
