Very hard, if not impossible, for me to get up. So I use knee pads (knees hurt otherwise) and I use two "very small" pillows stacked on top of each other in front of my recliner and get up via the recliner arms. (I crawl over to the recliner where the little pillows are stacked). Works out fine.

For the laying down, I use a chair that my husband pushes up to me and I get my legs on that. Otherwise, I can't do the couch thing or any other chair, etc. to lay my lower legs on. The chair has to be pushed up to me. Hope this makes sense
