It sounds like you need to establish some visual cues for your memory struggles. I have many. I will stack things near the door so I don't forget them. My father struggled with memory issues and was very successful with list and notes. He kept some 3x5 cards in his shirt pocket and wrote down his memory needs.

Maybe your wife can help you set up some visual memory cues.
