are you sure you don't have something more than sensory neuropathy??
the fingers curl over at night sounds almost like hand clawing - something that can happen with thoracic outlet syndrome {TOS} or some of the other conditions that affect the larger nerves.

I would get the dr onto this and possibly have more testing, like EMG as mentioned.
Don't accept it as part your current diagnosis until the testing proves if it is or isn't.
It may be something new and treatable, and best treated before too much time has passed.
