Typically you have to ask for it now. Our Vet charges EXTRA to do it! Sheba is so old...she has to have it done yearly.

My son's cat is not old but she is having problems with it.

When the cat gets touchy about the tail area, or extra grumpy or you see them having trouble sitting down, that is a clue.
Big cats...tubby types...can't reach back there easily and also are prone to this problem.

Our other two cats seem to be okay in that department. So I guess it varies.
