I'm not familiar with the stent aspect, but it sounds like they deem the surgery to be a benefit to you. With your arm turning purple and such, I'm sure you would see some improvement.

I don't really understand what they needed to approve though, is this type of surgery normally not covered?

As for being prepared, definitely good thing to take a couple more weeks to get everything in order. As I have mentioned before, prepared meals are a must. After my surgery I was very limited to what I could do so being able to throw something in the microwave was good to have. Also if you aren't already, it couldn't hurt to get some multivitamins to ensure you are giving your body the much needed nutrients that it will need after the surgery.
