most laptop keys do pop off for cleaning.

desktop keyboards {unplugged of course} can usually be rinsed under the faucet if a sticky beverage has been spilled on it.

I've rinsed 3 different brands of keyboards under warm water over the years - just let them dry out completely before plugging them back in.

I do keep a spare keyboard and a spare mouse around just for this reason.
Sometimes you can find decent spares at thrift or Goodwill stores.

A few weeks ago cat had spilled coffee w/sugar & cream all over my optical mouse - so rinsed & let dry for a few days & works fine.
