Which treatment protocol to follow?
Recently diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. 3 lymph nodes involved, estrogen positive. HER2 Neg.
Seen 2 Oncologist with 2 different protocols for Chemotherapy. I assumed treatment would be the same. Both said Perpheral Neuropthy would be a side effect of Taxol and Docetaxel Which treatment would provide best chance for nonrecurance and less chance for Perpheral Neuropthy.
Dr. M would be giving me 4 treatments (2 per month) using a combination of Adramycin (if available) or Epirubicin in its place along with Cytoxan and Docetaxel. All three drugs together. The next 4 treatments he would drop the Adramycin and continue with just Cytoxan and Docetaxel also given 2 per month. This would be followed by 5 years on an anti-estrogen drug of his choosing.
Total treatments 8.
Dr.P on the other hand would be giving me 4 treatments (2 per month) using only Adramycin (if available)or Epirubicin and Cytoxan). He would then follow up with 12 weekly treatments of only Taxol. This would be followed by 5 years or longer on an anti-estrogen drug. Dr. P indicated that he has several patients staying on the anti-estrogen drug longer then 5 years. Whether I come off after 5 years or stay on would be determined at that time.
Total treatments 16.
After completing Chemotherapy both doctors would refer me to a Radiologist to determine if additional radiation therapy would be appropriate and beneficial for me. I would greatly appreciate information.
