True friendship goes a long way — News

How far would you go to help a friend? Would you ride a bike across the country? Some would, some wouldn’t. My friend from high school, Kevin, and three of his friends, are doing so as I write this. They started in San Diego this week, and will end up in Florida, who knows when. Coast to coast, they will be collecting money from as many businesses as possible and donate all of it to ALS Association. Thier friend, Kalan, died from ALS in November of 2006. ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, according to the ALS Association Web site, is a neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower motor neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord. This rare disease is also dubbed the Lou Gehrig Disease. It is said that most people get this disease around 40 to 60 years old. Kalan was in his 20s and went to Willamette University.

What Kevin and his friends are doing is amazing. That’s a long, long ride — a ride that I can’t even imagine doing. But these guys are relentless to not let Kaylan’s death be in vain and are willing to sacrifice their time and strength to help anyone else with ALS survive. They are asking for anyone’s help. You can donate $1, 2$, $5, whatever you can spare. To do so, go to this Web site:
http://web.alsa.org/site/TR?px=13167...und&fr_id=1460

Donate a dollar or two, help save a life. Because, you never know when your friend may need help, and wouldn’t it be great if random people helped him/her out. Think about it.
