Watching Ben-Hur today... uncut... And it brings up my hubby's penchant for looking up trivia on IMDB... so he comes in and says, guess who wrote the screenplay ---but got no CREDIT?
An argument over plot issues (conservative 1950's issues) led to his name being left off. And he lost an Oscar because of it. Screenplay was not a winner of all those categories because of it.
It was Gore Vidal! so that led to a discussion about Ernestine (Lily Tomlin's character) who was always talking to "Vital" on the phone (who she revealed in her last skit as fictitious Gore Vidal, much to his annoyance!)
