Tulips
Tulips
Flash wild flames of fire on velvet
Tulips fizz with pure color
Waking the eyes
Visual juice – not frothy but quenching
Liquid punch
Coquettishly hesitant to open their cups –
Tulips invite to drink up – (make sure you get enough)
They are so quickly drained,
Wither, brown and
As if shamed, each, curls into itself.
One petal at a time falls until
All that’s left is stem, an up thrust dagger
Reminding – “I am here….waiting…
For springs’ glorious overexposure matinee
Featuring crimson” – that brazen hot red gloss
That sirens smooth over pouty lips.
Overthrown,
Competitors hues pale, appear faded
And once again tulips capture March in burning blitz,
This story is to be told with chalices raised
To lips drunk on life
In awe, at its intricate honesty
in the wonder of discovery of its wonder
