Welcome to the forums. First off, methadone would not be my first choice of painkiller. In fact, it would probably be my last. Some people seem to like it, but it caused me more problems than solutions.

When I went off Neurontin I did it cold-turkey, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend that for anyone else. Especially if you have a history of seizures. I didn't suffer any withdrawal symptoms that were too terrible to bear. A bit of diahhrea, some shakiness, and difficulty sleeping and eating were the worst, but they didn't last too long.

Pardon my saying so, but it sounds to me that you need to be able to talk to people who understand as much as anything. It must have been quite hard to be brought up under those circumstances. I had a tough Dad, too.
