As it stands now, I still have about 30 years to work. Hopefully my house will be paid off and I most likely won't be driving, so a car is out. I think that I will be able to make it off my 401k.

I don't think the government will let SS go bust. I think a class action law suit and crime would besiege our lawmakers. I've been paying into SS since I was 17. When its my time to get some of the money back that I have been paying for 50+ years, they need to give a return on my investment. I think that 2037 is the year that SS tax collection will not meet the amount needed for the estimated payouts.
