I HAD a mouthful of amalgam fillings. (3 left now, had 9 replaced with composite)

I had a flare immediately after having my first set of fillings replaced (did them in threes) But, that one, when my dentist broke thru the old filling, my teeth were full of infection, and I'm pretty sure some of it escaped into my body. I felt like crap for months.

Next set of fillings, I felt ok after they were replaced, but then I got a root canal done in one of the teeth that she'd already worked on the first set of amalgam removals. (omg, root canals really really really suck!) Amazingly I dont think the root canal triggered any MS stuff.

The third set of fillings that were replaced, I was ok for about a month, but then had a big flare of numbness. I dont know if that was directly related to the amalgam removal.

I can tell you I was pretty sick before she did the work. My mouth was so sensitive from having all that amalgam in there. I'm pretty positive that's what made my MS wake up. A couple of years before I had the first flare, I had cracked one of my fillings (the one that was full of infection) I went to my old dentist, but he had a big hissy fit when I wouldnt let him start on my mouth not even 30 seconds after he injected me with the novocaine. (my new dentist makes me wait about 15 - 20 minutes before she does anything. Said my old dentist was an impatient sadist)

When I wouldnt let the old dentist start yet because I wasnt numb enough yet, he threw his drill across the room (at his tech, hit the wall just behind her. She looked scared) Told me to come back. So, I ended up just letting the filling stay cracked for at least...2 or 3yrs before I found my new dentist who fixed it.

That old dentist is the one who put most of the amalgam in my mouth. (my first dentist, who is pretty much the one responsible for me having dentist phobia did some too) The new dentist told me that most of the amalgam in my mouth was high mercury. Said she could tell by the color and the way it came apart when she was cleaning it out of my mouth.

I'm glad that I finally got it taken care of, except for those last 3 amalgams. My mouth feels so much better, and I think my general health got better since I had the work done. Kind of sucks that it doesnt seem to have had an effect on my MS. I'm still having flares and am starting to have problems walking now.

I think if I'd left my mouth in the condition it was in, I'd be a lot sicker with the MS than I am now, so I really am glad that I had most of the amalgam removed.
