That is good.
You might need to re-light the sage during the process.
Hold something under the sage stick because it will drop little embers. (I use a plate covered in tin-foil.)
There is no exact way to do this. The GOOD intentions matter more than the method.
Watch your fire alarms. We have electric fire alarms that get set off by smoke like this.
Depending on the sage you buy, the smoke could have strong smell.
