Hi Eloria,

Welcome to the forum! I've had both complex partial and absence (petit mal) seizures for 39 yrs. now. I've tried many different seizure meds but not a single drug has help control my seizures. I had 2 brain surgeries done to help reduce my seizures but I have found that I have many more seizures in the fall and winter compared to spring and summer. Stress and the lack of sleep are the 2 main things that can trigger seizures for a person. Sometimes a person can also be photosensitive which means certain colors will trigger seizures. I had a special e.e.g. done yrs. ago where the Dr. ordered different color strobe lights to be flashed during the test one at a time and they found that florescent green, amber, and bright white like when the sun shines on the snow to be the main colors that would trigger my seizures. I've seen many different neurologist over they yrs. but I got the best help when I went to a university hospital where there was an Epilepsy Center and I began to see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in Epilepsy) since that time I've taken the least amount of meds and I found out what caused my seizures. If you haven't tried doing this try taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day it has been a great help reducing my seizures because it calms the nerves. Also stay away from nutra sweet (ex. diet soda) they have found that nutra sweet causes more electrical activity in a persons brain and it can trigger seizures for many people. If you haven't started doing this also keep a journal and write down any time you have a seizure along with a discription of the seizure. Also take note if there is a low pressure in the weather because sometimes that will trigger seizures a day or two before the bad weather comes. By keeping track of your seizures your neurologist may see a pattern as to what time of day/night you are having more seizures and what days of the month. You can also request that the Dr. give you a DNA test by doing this they can find the best seizure med for you with the least side effect. I wish you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue
