Wow, the veterinarian should have given you complete instructions on the after care. My daughter's dachsund went down a couple of years ago and he had surgery. Alas, he never regained movement of his limbs except for the occasional spinal walking, which really isn't 'real' walking.

You really need to contact that vet about aftercare. I'm shocked they didn't say anything. My daughter had to be very careful at first.

They do require post-surgery therapy to regain the use of their legs.
