I am beginning to wonder if these little temporary miracles are really just dormant compensatory measures springing to life once again, or new ones that have yet to realize their fullest potential. If they appear suddenly and fleetingly, surely they can be convinced to stick around and help us out. How do we do that?

I wonder if novelty is a factor in this - anything new is grabbing attention in a different way and we perhaps have new expectations of it - or use new pathways or something---after a number of experiences, we kind get habituated and nothing responds - maybe the challenge is to keep the novel aspect going - toss objects, play soccer, sing, tapdance, whatever, but change it up?
