the Wall St. Journal is a pro wall st financier, big business right wing newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch who also owns Fox News, which favors big cuts in social security, medicare, medicaid, unemployment insurance, workers compensation etc. Anytime they report on anything to do with government programs they present those programs in the most dire, unfavorable light possible. Im sure there has been a drain on funds with the economy and im sure there is a certain political party that will use that to advocate for big cuts in anything but business subsidies, but i dont think the end of ssdi is near.
