Another thing
Sandy Just clicking on the reply box will not work. Under a post on the RIGHT side, is an icon to use for a quick reply 
This allows a no frills reply.
Or just click the 
The LEFT side under responses "REPLY" button.
I just thought that maybe something that you were doing, using the box and it was not activated as a field to enter text????
