The Greater Raleigh Court Civic League dedicated the new "Dan Wright Trailhead" today in Roanoke.

Dan Wright was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease last summer, just a few shorts months before the trail he started working on 7 years ago was finished.

Volunteers have been working on the newly named trailhead throughout February, clearing brush and installing signs.

Wright has worked on other Roanoke Valley greenways, and has served as a director of Pathfinders, a volunteer group that supports greenways.

Dan is also well known for his passion for running.

He has been president of the Star City Striders and an important force in promoting running throughout the area.

Even though, Lou Gehrig's disease has slowed Dan, he continues to make contributions to the community.

This fall, Dan contacted ALS Socity, which staged a walk to raise funds for ALS research.

The event raised $25,000.

The "Dan Wright Trailhead" is off Grandin Road, in Shrine Hill Park, next to Patrick Henry High School
