Our local Farmer's Market opens next weekend!

This year they're advertising grass-fed beef and free range chicken from two local farms in our county. These farms also encourage folks to come by and see just how the animals are raised and treated.

I don't think I could "get to know" the animal before I ate it......I'd feel too guilty......but I will go in with several people and purchase a portion of one cow. I probably eat meat and chicken two to three times a week - less in the summer - so I tend to purchase less than most.

The cage-free eggs and local fresh milk is worth the drive and extra cost. I've been buying these items at Publix (their GreenWise brand) but I'm anxious to give my money to locally owned farms.
