I gave up on makeup about 30 years ago. Before that I never was very good at applying it and limited it to eyebrow pencil, lipstick, and sometimes mascara.

Nowadays my lips look fairly pale, and I use a slightly colored lip balm. That's all.

If people don't like the way I look, too bad. I wash my face twice a day.

I've noticed that fewer women wear makeup these days. Maybe it's going out of style. Good riddance! I can't think why women have been expected to paint up our faces while men aren't. They're the ones with the 5 o'clock shadow problem...

What's WRONG with our faces as they are?

OK, I'll get off the soapbox but it makes me mad when I think of how super-costly makeup is--and how many skin and even eye problems people can have as a result of using it.

My face is numb, and makeup wasn't staying in place on my face anyway. I'd put on lipstick and eyebrow pencil, and look in the mirror hours later and find it had moved around on my face.

As for jewelry, I haven't worn it in years either. It's too heavy, and if a clasp comes undone or an earring falls off, I wouldn't feel it--numbness again. I've given most of it away--kept a few pieces I'm sentimentally attached to.
